Blog Necromancy

I’m going to start blogging again.

I haven’t used this for anything in over a year, for a variety of reasons, but I’ve been thinking about the purpose and usefulness of a blog a lot lately. I like Twitter for short pithy thoughts and I have a bigger reach there (I mean, bigger than zero), but there are definitely long-form ideas that deserve additional space, and there’s still not really anything better than a blog for that.

I also feel really weird trying to talk in-depth about certain historical topics on social media, but I’ve missed exercising that part of my brain. This is a good place to muse on things that don’t really fit elsewhere.

A blog is also free of the “take cycle” which I’m mostly immune to by virtue of being too small-time to bother with, but no sense in tempting fate.

Finally, it feels to me like old-fashioned blogging now has the respectable vintage feel of a vinyl LP or a handwritten letter — there’s something charming and intentional about writing something on a blog rather than just spewing it out into the ether.

So watch this space for some errant thoughts that don’t fit elsewhere. I think you’ll like what you see.
